My 5th grade son has started taking saxophone lessons at school. I purchased an extra mouthpiece to see if I could keep up with him! This book is just great. This book gets you playing without the problems of reading sheet music. This is my son's favorite practice book because he can play the songs so quickly. He's already playing "Careless Whisper" , "Pink Panther", "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" and a few others. Really amazing to me. If you want to make fast progress then get this book. Also, you can watch Mark Archer and his teaching style on youtube. The only downside to this book was that it did not include the cd that is talked about in the book. My son would play the songs on youtube so he had an idea of how the song should sound. But, I still give this book 5 stars!

It is a good book, but the only problem is that throughout the book Mark Archer refers to a cd, but the book came with out a cd, and because the book was shipped from USA, no chance of getting one.
That's the reason for low rating.

Creative, Funny, Insightful Look at Biblical Leadership

For his first book, Lepine tackles a tough topic almost as easily as Tiger Woods' first weekend at Augusta. With heavy doses of humor and an appropriate number of real-life stories, this life long broadcaster makes his point effectively: for a man to be successful in God's eyes as a husband, he must be a corageous leader spiritually and organizationally in the home.
Other books on manhood that I've read--Tender Warrior, The Masculine Journey, etc.--cover all of the male struggle. Lepine's book actually sticks to what it means to be a husband. I appreciate the focus.
His standards are high--calling to mind John Calvin is a tall order. I appreciate his honesty and the personal stories--Lepine is real, not made up.
My favorite aspect of the book is how Lepine moves from umbrella principle, to biblical support, to illustration, to (finally) personal application. He doesn't insult my intelligence with his application points; he calls me up short. I'm glad there's comic relief amid the moans.
If there's a weak point to the book (other than the dreadful cover), it's the section on the husband as "prophet." I have trouble connecting with the principle.
I've run across a somewhat self-published study guide as well.

Old school D&D feel, quick play, love it

For some reason, Amazon never got this book in stock so I ended up buying it directly from the publisher, though it took almost 3 weeks to get it.
In a nutshell, the system is very old school in play and feel. A few points below about the game.

Character generation is 3d6 dice down the stats (strength, agility, stamina, etc.), down the column no adjustments.
Character classes/races are old school, either a fighter, wizard, elf, cleric, dwarf, etc., i.e. a elf is a hybrid wizard/warrior, while the dwarf is a focused fighter.
The character funnel system is quite interesting and works excellent in application.

Spells are Vancian system, but very old school, the system follows the original author design much closer than TSR did with their version of Vancian. DCC Vancian versions includes potential for excellent results, no results, forgetting spells, and misfire (love it), and corruption. All spells have rather extensive tables for results.

Magic items are special and rare, and so rather rules light.

Monsters have some tables for generation, but the listing is rather light, good for starters. Maybe down the road they will add additional monster books.

I DM primarily, and I have to say that overall I have loved running Goodman Games DCC system. Once you get the rules down, it runs quick. It is designed to be grim and gritty, and character deaths come fast and quick, so players will have to get used to the old day of TSR's chainmail-2nd edition where character died much more often and were not raiseable until 8th level (unlike 3.0/3.5).

Nice game with a very old school aesthetic, very different to most modern games. I remain deeply suspicious of D7s, but overall an interesting design and I look forward to hopefully making large numbers of PCs go splat at some point with it.

Great overview of manga, anime, and the impact of Japanese media

Just in terms of the expansive area with which MacWilliams covers the topic of Japanese Visual Culture is enough to warrant kudos. This book collects writers from across the globe to comment on Japanese visuals, aesthetics, and media from before the world knew of Hokusai's views of Mount Fuji all the way up to computer-generated animation in films like Ghost in the Shell 2.

However, this book does not merely cover the historicity of Japanese visual culture but how it has impacted gender relations, politics, international relations, and cultural identity.

While this book does tend to get bogged down in certain areas through repetition in multiple articles (how much do we really need to hear about the changes Shojo manga brought to the industry or how Osamu Tezuka is the founder of modern manga and anime?) the book is a great foundational piece for anyone looking to further their own studies on the subject of Japanese visual culture.
